I was approached by the great guys at DOPO to help them with a destruction sequence, GOT style.
A dragon breaks through a huge glass dome with lots of metal parts.
The main challenge was building a flexible and fast setup to acomodate late changes in the dragon´s animation and that exceded the director´s expectations.
As a step in the simulation process, the original geometry had to be prepared to be fed into the simulation.
The metal parts had to be cut in a particular way, so the simulation could be optimized and the deformation is smooth.
The generated wires needed to be built to match the metal in their extension and in the fold positions.
The Houdini simulation: Wire + RBD with custom constraints.
The Wire-to-Metail deformation setup.
The glass activation setup: unbroken glass to the broken glass.
